Northern Pakistan – The death toll is rising in Azad Jammu and Kashmir where at least 37 are killed, with more than 500 injured by a strong 5.8 magnitude earthquake. According to the United States Geological survey report, the epicenter of the earthquake was 140 kilometers from Srinagar at the depth of 10 kilometers.
Earthquake was felt in several towns in Pakistan, includingLahore, Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa range.
With this said, the people in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the region were indeed heavily affected by earthquake, meeting a loss of, water, electrical power and other services.
High Seismic hazard zone
Zone-wise, Azad Jammu and Kashmir falls into the most sensitive category. Zone areas like Azad Jammu and Kashmir are at the risk of suffering earthquakes of intensity.
PM voices concern on the earthquake
Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed his grief on the earthquake and addressed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to speed up activities in the affected areas.
Army troops to participate in rescue activities
DG ISPR said that Pakistan medical teams and army forces have been dispatched to AJK and other earthquake-hit zones.
